Wall plastering: before and after

Paint-ready or wallpaper-ready: what is the difference?

Paint-ready is the smoothest finish: once it has dried, you can paint it. Wallpaper-ready is slightly less smooth, good enough to hang wallpaper on.

Want to paint? Then ask for paint-ready and have it put in the quote. That way you know in advance what you get.

New-build: from wallpaper-ready to smooth

Many new-build homes are handed over wallpaper-ready. If you want to paint the walls, that is usually not smooth enough: the paint shows every unevenness. During the site visit we look at what your walls need to become paint-ready.

Where it goes wrong with walls

Four things to watch for, with us and with any other plasterer.

  • Wallpaper-ready, when you want to paint

    On a wallpaper-ready wall, paint shows every unevenness. Agree in advance what you will get.

  • Light falling along the wall

    A window next to the wall or a long hallway shows bumps you miss when you look at it straight on. Discuss in advance how smooth it needs to be.

  • Masking and priming added afterwards

    If it is not in the quote, it gets added later. Ask what is included in the price per m².

  • Mess afterwards

    After the plastering you do not want grit and splashes in the house that you have to clean up yourself. Ask what will be covered and who cleans up.

How we do it

  • You see the price in advance: smooth plastering from €19 per m², thin-coat plastering from €11, excl. VAT.
  • For smooth plastering, materials, masking and priming are included in that price.
  • You agree in advance whether it will be paint-ready or wallpaper-ready, and we measure up before you get the price.

    We come by, look at the walls and ceilings and measure up. Then you get the price, before we start.

    You can paint or wallpaper

    We plaster what is in the quote, paint-ready or wallpaper-ready. Once it is dry, the wall is ready for paint or wallpaper.

What does wall plastering cost per m²?
Smooth plastering costs €19 to €26 per m², excluding VAT, with materials, masking and priming included. You get the exact price after the site visit.
What is the difference between paint-ready and wallpaper-ready?
Paint-ready (in Dutch verfklaar, also called sausklaar) is the smoothest finish: once it is dry, you can paint it. Wallpaper-ready (behangklaar) is slightly less smooth, good enough to hang wallpaper on.
How long does plaster need to dry before I can paint?
That differs per job: a thick coat or a room with poor ventilation dries more slowly. Feel free to ask us.
Do you also plaster walls in new-build homes?
